11/5/2011 - Supplemental - Texas Renaissance Festival Adventure

Greetings Friends. My Spirits and Energy levels are good.

My finger is healing rather quickly. Again I contribute this to Zero Carb.

Well let me tellya about my Texas Renaissance Festival Adventure. I ended up taking my two nephews. One is 16 yrs old and the other 13 yrs old. They were both well mannered and appeared to have a great time. The following pictures are the acts that we saw according to our schedule.

Arsene (my all time favorite)
This French performer's accolades are too numerous to list in full.  He has performed for  President and Mrs. George H. Bush, taught juggling to the Cirque du Soleil, won 1st Place at "Le Cirque de Demain", and appeared at such  diverse locations as Disney World, Las Vegas, and Hawaii.  Arsene has been performing worldwide since 1978, both live and on TV.  You have never seen an act quite like this one. Arsene, il est magnifique!

The Steele Sisters (not very good IMO)
Join the two beautiful Steele Sisters on their quest to find a husband.  Their father has decided the first one to be married will inherit all of his lands.... and his horses.... and his flowers... and his weapons!  This high energy two woman show is packed with comedy, wit, sisterly love, sisterly competition and a little sisterly swordplay.****Not seeing this one next year.****

Fire, Whip Show (2nd place)
Adam performs sophisticated, high-energy routines, featuring Adam's dry humor in spoken material, anecdotes, historical or educational stories.  And yes, there is room for audience interaction in his shows, always more than just a series of amazing tricks.  Routines include single-handed whip cracking, double-handed multi-crack demos, stunts and tricks including balloon popping, candle snuffing, paper cutting, flower snipping, whip dancing, wraps, fire whips, and much, much more.

Circa Paleo (Tied for 3rd)
Embracing the rhythms and melodies that breach the boundaries of region and era, Circa Paleo draws upon varied global influences to bring unlikely musical combinations to the here and now.  Lyrical violin, Turkis saz, Scandinavian fiddle, gypsy clarinet, folk guitar, earthy bass and driving percussion conjure a magical elven dance party beneath the canopy of Sherwood Forest.  Come kick up your heels in our musical celebration of another time and place.

Art of Defense (Gets worse every year)
Contestants from throughout Europe have gathered to test their skills against one another. You will see a variety of fighting styles and weapons as each combatant takes the measure  of the other at this combat symposium. However,  it often seems that friendly competition yields to vicious rivalry as the blood heats and fighting reflexes take hold.   Watch in rapt attention as skilled swordsman slash, thrust, and parry against equally skilled opponents.****These new crop of actors are really bad. The first time I saw them they a few years ago they were really great with a lot of skills. This year they might as well got people form the audience to perform. I will not be seeing this act next year.****

Wine and Alchemy (Tied for 3rd)
If music be the food of love, then Wine and Alchemy is a smorgasbord of Gypsy passion. Performing instrumental and vocal music with an exotic array of instruments, from Bouzouki to Sitar, from Accordion to Guitar, from Violin to Hurdy Gurdy, and a whole lotta drum, Wine and Alchemy dishes out rockin' world music for the new renaissance.  With a strong dose of world fusion and tribal belly dance, there's something to peak the interest of any wandering rogue or lusty wench.****This band and Circa Paleo used to be "E Muzeki". They broke up about three years ago. They are very similar in their style. I wish they would have stayed together. They were together for eight years. What a shame.****

Clan Tynker Family Circus (very nice 4th)
Clan Tynker is a family of siblings who perform a wide variety of talents in a whimsical "Old World" style. The show is a kaleidoscope performed to live music. An impressive variety of  skills are displayed including juggling, stage magic, comedy, dance, sword swallowing, fire-eating and tight-wire walking.  The accompanying musical soundscape is played on an variety of instruments. This fun and lively show is appropriate for audiences of all ages and has been well received by families. **** Relatively new to TRF. They replace one of my favorite shows "The Other Brothers". I do like them and will see them again. I just wish they would get rid fo The Steele Sisters and bring back  The Other Brothers.****

Yours Truly (Steak on a stick)

Yours Truly part II

Fair Ground Map

All in all I had a real good time with my nephews. We had tons of fun. They played a lot of games such as throwing full size Battle Axes, Knives, and Ninja Stars at targets. They also had a round with the Long Bow. They were very accurate and skilled to my amazement. I should have known better. They are related to ME. HA!

Have a Great (ZC) Day my Friends and Zero Carb Family. Keep the Faith and Always Battle On!!!

(ZC)er Boldness be my friend

Cheers,

Dave

  12. Hi Teri (AKA Cyber Mom), well to tell you the truth I really don't know. If I had to guess it may be from 3 - 5 years from now. Since my family there is moving abroad. I do miss your cooking and appreciate the offer. Time will tell. Say "HI" to Bob for me.
