I was doing some thinking, asking myself why I stopped 5BDZC after a week of excellent results, even if I still had about 7 lbs to loose to get back to a perfect weight.

Maybe it is because everything is our body, metabolism set point, brain chemicals and hormone levels, addiction risk (especially sugar…), organ functioning, from pancreas exhaustion to liver function abuse ect. are all set to an individual level…

And this level could depends on many things that can go back to what your mother was exposed to during gestation, food and chemicals, and what you were fed with as a kid, also including the way you were brought up, with a caring family or not, and the stress you were expose to, all this setting your brain chemicals with eventual imbalance. Not forgetting what was genetically programmed…

And this individuality could also include what made up your lifestyle getting older, like smoking, alcohol or any drug consumption, exercise and, again, diet, stress and chemical exposure, to whatever makes your actual way of living…

It would be nice to resume the “beauty of ZC” with a few words, but on a long run, we do realize it is more then eating animal proteins + fats and avoiding the rest of food items.

I think somewhere we need to stop and meditate on our personal situation to finally pinpoint what stops us finding “harmony with ZC”. For some of us, it may be a hard and long journey but I think it is worth it.

I am actually reading the recent published book “FAT CHANCE: Beating the Odds Against Sugar, Processed Food, Obesity, and Disease” by Dr. Robert Lustig. Interestingly, he describes how some kids are plagued with “food anxiety”, which is the fear of not getting food (because of poverty), or not enough to eat (for other reasons). The results being, at there young age, it programs brain wiring and chemicals, permanently, giving birth to a huge variety of lifetime inadequate emotions.

Still, we should not get upset about all this because, as I see that in my own experience and other ZC’s, it seems our WOE has a strong effect on imbalance in our body, the best example being the multiple testimonies of how “anorexia nervosa” sufferers can cure with ZC.

Now I have to meditate myself about why I stopped this fantastic 5BDZC week. I do have a small ideal of the reason but it would be nice to have the “whole picture”…

1/29/2013 - The 5 Bite Diet Day15 & 16 2.0 Ala Zero Carb

Greetings all. My Spirits and Energy levels are great.

OK it was no accident that I did not post an update yesterday. I wanted yesterday to be "Denis Day". I wanted the focus to be on him. He has and will have very important input that we all can appreciate. I am very pleased, but not surprised at his debut. He is a very talented and knowledgeable person. I rather like this chap much and enjoy the comfort of his wisdom.

OK then, where do we go from here? Where indeed! Up of course, can there be any other direction? Yes that was a rhetorical question. It sure was......


I was recently talking to a friend urologist who was detailing me how many of his patients, nowadays, were consulting him for “ strange and unusual urinary problems”, and according to him, the explanation for there bizarre symptoms is that they are OVERHYDRATING themselves…

When we think about it, the motto of “drinking a lot of water is good for you”, advice given repeatedly by nutritionists, doctors, health magazines etc., is quite recent. I do not recall, as a kid, that I was asked to drink that much, except maybe in excess sweating situations, and certainly not on an everyday basis. But I do recall we were very healthy in these years…

Do you know what the MayoClinic recommends per day as water intake?

“Fluid needs, on average, for healthy adult living in a temperate climate: the adequate intake for men is roughly 3 liters (about 13 cups) of total beverages and for women 2.2 liters (about 9 cups) a day.”
I do not want to criticize the MayoClinic folks as they look up for excellency in there work but please, where is the science behind all this and how could we get into believing we need as much liquid and that it is healthy for us???

Well it seems, as many other stuff, that big soft drink corporations tricked us into this when they saw their sales going down in the ’90. And what did they do to correct the situation? They bought most of the bottle water companies and with talented marketing professionals, they created the new concept of “body hydration”… which led to today’s overdrinking... convincing us to walk around holding a bottle of water like if we were all on our way to the gym... And looking at today’s earnings of these corporations, they did a pretty good job at persuading us!!!

This doctor told me he solves his patient’s problem by suggesting drinking only when thirsty and according to the concentration/color of their urine. No pill/no test/no mystery here.

I was recently reading about old traditional Chinese medicine and what was my surprise to discover that one of their main health advice, to reach harmony between the yin and the yang, is to AVOID overdrinking water. The explanation being it causes you to excrete in urine, because of dilution, your body minerals; of course, this goes with all the associated problems related to mineral deficiencies… the best example being the increase in osteoporosis of the general population in the last decade. Calcium loss from the bone used to be a problem of old ladies. Finish. Now you may see young active women with this problem, and 10% of osteoporotic persons are now men, this being unimaginable 2 decades ago. Observe middle age men nowadays; you will be surprise to find how many walk around with the "cripple flexed posture of the spine" typical of osteoporosis just "like old ladies”… Of course, over hydrating is only one extra cause for the increase of this problem, as many other factors like high carbohydrate diets, hormone disregulation ect. do play an important role.

In the LC world, we are all advice to drink a lot of water. But I am wondering if we are not wrong on this one. For myself, I saw the few leg cramps I had disappear when I  tried to stop overhydrating and this made me take this issue seriously. I now drink when I am thirsty and a little more when I sweat. That’s it.

I don’t mean to stop drinking water; I mean to drink to replace fluids; and the best way to know how much you need per day is to listen to your body; THIRST was created for this mean… 

So why follow “the rules of others” when you can find the answers inside yourself???

First, I want to thank Dave for giving me the chance to join him on his great adventure of the ZC path. Over the years his blog has always delivered, entertain us (!!!) and, lets say it loudly, it was surely a source of enlightenment in more then a way and for most of us.

I always thought of this blog as a “place of tranquility” where folks could exchange with respect, empathy and, overall, a lot of compassion and generosity.

I think as ZC’s folks, we tend to forget how much ‘outsiders’ we are in today’s society. This is when support is important and luckily, the virtual world of Internet has helped us a lot. Overall, we are all free to come and go, be as open or anonymous as we think we need, but we must not forget that the reality of ‘internet friendship’ do exist, that it overcome not only distances, languages and cultures but also ages and social stratification. ZC is an open world and it is a WOE for everyone!!!

To put the rest down quite simply about myself, I would say that after a life of useless dieting based on bad science and misinformation, I discovered, more then 17 years ago, the virtues of a low carb diet. It has helped me a lot in the beginning but as I was never really satisfied with results, I moved to a VLCD and finally to a ZC diet. This one being, putting all today’s available research together, the ideal diet, the one the human body was designed to be nourish with.

My actual health condition is not only good it is astonishing. No disease, pill or pain and lots of energy to go. I don’t need to publish my recent blood tests; the results are so normal, they are boring…

Zero Carb is not an extreme diet as many can say; it respects your body's natural physiology, the proper functioning of all organs and brings back harmony in all brain chemicals. And, surely again, Zero Carb is not an eating disorders, it cures eating disorders!!! It is an experience everyone should give a try just to realize how badly they are treating themselves with today's officially recommended diet.

We all have the freedom of choice and I respect this. But why choose to suffer through chronic debilitating diseases, why accept intoxicating our body with medication to control the said diseases (and never cure them) and why expose ourselves to premature aging and premature death, when we can eat the diet million years of evolution has designed for our body?

So here I am, ready to search, study and understand what is the science, both biological and social, that supports this ZC WOE. I do not pretend to know and explain everything (and no scientist should anyway…) but anything that is published, books and reviews included, I read. As I like to stay low profile on my qualifications for privacy reasons, let’s just say that I have “a wall of diplomas” in my office that gives me the assurance I have the necessary competence to deal with this science.

And I assure you, the puzzle of ZC is getting laid down quite nicely; nicely enough to convince me to give some time to our friend Dave that have created for us a nice “garden” to blossom, as healthy as we were created to be!!!

Sorry for yet another short post. I hope everyone is good with the up and coming changes. I am doing what I feel best to keep this blog alive. This is just a handful of places that focuses on, well for the most part, Zero Carb Way of Eating.

Greetings all.
Now for the Big, Big, Big announcement. Yes, it is early. Go figure! If you have not noticed, there is an area on the right hand side of the Blog titled contributors. Pro(ZC)ac is now an an administrator/ owner of this Zero Carb Blog. I will give him the opportunity to formally introduce himself to you all. Just like the recent face lift I gave the blog, other changes are coming down the pipe. Anyway I feel that Pro(ZC)ac has a full in depth foundation concerning Zero Carb and he has been gracious enough to accept my offer to help me manage this blog. So for that I thank him very much.

Jeez what a late start indeed! Well I was off today and planned to sleep in late. I did not want to get up earlier than 9 am and possibly 10 am. My office was closed for MLK day. So sounds good if not great right??? WRONG!!!

Why? Because my Dear Wife (DW) was off today too and decided a "Day Trip" to the other side of Houston to go to Chinatown. She wanted to try a new resturant over there that her aunt raves about and to pick up some food items that are only available in Chinese stores. So She wake me up at 7:30 am and tells me to start getting ready. Jeez to the third degree!!!

Yes I went to the gun show and no I did not buy anything............well not exactly...... The prices were totally ridiculous. Some riffles are not twice the price as a couple of month ago and ammo is not much better.

So what did I buy you may ask. Beef Summer Sausage. Homemade that is will all the Yucky stuff missing. This place makes homemade Jerky, Cheese and Beef Summer Sausage. I bought a huge 3 lbs Beef Summer Sausage after sampling it. Wow was it good. I also go two small packs of Beef Jerky. Also very good.

1/18/2013 - The 5 Bite Diet Day Five 2.0 Ala Zero Carb

Greetings Friends. My Spirits are on the up and up and my Energy is stable.

I am posting a little later than usual. Busy day and all. No need to fret I will not miss a day of posting during this Trek unless an emergency comes along. Now tomorrow might be real late because I might be going to a "Gun Show" in Houston, Texas. The lines are long so my friend that invited me wants to leave extra early in the morning. So we will see.I am in need of a good Shotgun. So to the show I go.

So on one of the comments "Bone Broth" was brought up. I asked for a recipe and the "Commenter" was kind enough to give the instructions. I am guessing it can be made with any type of Bones you like. I am not a big Chicken soup fan, so that is out. I forgot to mention that the Bones are actually the feet of the animal. So it looks like Beef Feet for me or I guess "Cows Feet" is a more appropriate description. Just boil it all day and let all the goodies deposit in the broth. Seasonings are left to your desire. Sounds good if not Great!

Is it day four (4) already? How time flies. All in all I feel rather good if not Great about the diet so far. I took a lot of mental determination to get here. I had to think it out and plan. It is oh so easy to jump the gun and dive right in. I did some more reading and food preparation. I do have to admit one thing.

YES another confession............hold the you recorders........... confess....confess.......

Jeez not again!HA!!! Who is that anyway??? I know it can't be Cyber Mom., right??

Greetings all. My Spirits are high and my Energy is a little low.

I stayed up too late last night so I am yawning as I type. This is an ongoing deal with me. Sleep big time one night and not much another only to cycle again. Jeez such is life for me. I don't attribute any of this to eating as far as I am concerned.

I mentioned either in a response to a comment or a posting that this is indeed HELL WEEK. Why? Because I am hungry, real hungry. It is supposed to take 1-4 days to get used to the reduced amount and then things will be hunky dory, but for me I am sure it will take closer to 7 days. Yes I am hungry right now. Not starving hungry, not OMG I can't stand it hungry. Just annoying hungry.

1/15/2013 - The 5 Bite Diet Day TWO 2.0 Ala ZC

Greetings Friends. My Spirits and Energy levels are great!!!

Wow do I feel GREAT or what? Yes I sure do. I have to say that the excitement for me is overwhelming. I have to tell you that I was not sure about attempting the 5BD publicly on this blog. That being said I am glad I did it. It puts me in the spotlight. So there you go!

The first day was not too bad. Yes, I felt hungry. Yes the tummy rumbled, but I just think of the rumbling as the fat burning away. Hey it works for me. I am not concerned about the hunger I have plenty of "Stores" that feed my body the energy that it needs to function.

Oh I almost forgot: The Bulletproof Chia Tea. Well I was a little disappointed. Why? Because it was too weak. I used one tea bag and two tablespoons of unsalted Butter. The Butter taste was a little to strong, because the tea was too weak. So that is my fault. I will give a try again today. I will double bag the tea and let it steep a little longer.

OMG what is Dave going to admit too. What could it be? Did he, did he.....

Jeez you would have thought I robbed a bank or something. Yes, the blue text indicates that someone interrupted my confession. OMG....a confession and everything....... 

Jeez part two...... anyhow my confession: I confess that I am excited about this chapter in my life. So, no you don't have to inform INTERPOL that you have a confession of an international diamond thief or anything of the sort.

1/11/2013 - The Game is Afoot

Greetings Friends and Family. My Spirits are higher than high! My Energy level is good.

OK I believe someone around here said they were starting a new 5 Bite Diet Challenge.....right? Yes and No. Did that make sense???

NO is sure as to hell did not!!! Yikes....what language!!! OK, so I decided to delay the challenge until Monday 1/14/2013. Why? So I could eat all the doughnuts that I could handle until then..........not!!! HA!!!

Actually I was moving a little too fast and I need time to prepare. I have a tenancy to move forward too quickly on things that need careful planing both Mentally and Physically. So that being said I will definitely start my 5 Bit Diet quest no latter than Monday 1/14/2013 or possibly on Sunday 1/13/2013. I just might have enough prep-time on Saturday to pull it off. Maybe just maybe.

Sorry folks, I did not mean to jerk you around. It is just a small delay to help guarantee success. That simple, that easy you will see. Hey does that sound familiar? It should. So once again I invite you to join me as I slide down the scale on the Zero Carb 5 Bite Diet Ala Dave!!!

1/10/2013 - Where the Heart IS

Greetings all, my Spirits are High and my Energy is OK.

Lots and lots of work at the J.O.B. Many special projects that need my attention. It's funny to be the "Indispensable Employee". I get rewarded with tons of work because my peers are not capable of handling the projects yet we earn the same salary. OK I will move on to better things......

Well what's going on? What's going on indeed!!! Well I have decided to engage in another 30 day self imposed challenge. What kind of challenge one may ask, well the 5BD (5 Bite Deit) challenge. Of course it will be done Ala Zero Carb. So when will all this happen? Tune in next week for all the Fun Filled Facts.......NOT!!!

Actually I will start this challenge....... well........... lets see........ maybe...... next Monday?  No, let's say ...... Friday. Yes, Friday will good as any. It will give me a few days to practice...........Hahaha!!! No it will give me a few days to prepare some food. Hmm do I see my almost famous Zero Carb Beef Meatballs in the near future? Yes, because I ate the last one today and I need to make a batch.

1/7/2013 - I've Got the Power...Want some?

Greetings to one and all. My Sprits are high; my Energy level is getting better.

I am feeling a little optimistic about….well about everything. It almost feels like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders. It feels like something wonderful is going to happen. I just don’t know. I am happy to feel this way and I a will enjoy it while it lasts.

So I finally took down all the interior and exterior Christmas decorations. I just need to put them up into the attic. I did not do the yard work I was supposed to do because of rain. Not that I was really wanted to do the work. HA! I did enjoy a nice new cigar with some plain black coffee. Yum indeed!!! I grilled up some Sir Loin and NY Strips for dinner with dear wife (DW). I am trying to get into the mode of eating more Beef. It just makes me feel better that the other meats. I feel more satisfied and just more of a feeling of well being. Is it the Beef? Most likely not, I think it is just falling into place like that…. I guess.

1/4/2013 - Just Chilling....Again and Again

Greetings friends! My Spirits are great. My Energy level is not so great.

Why? Well, I just have not been sleeping well. It has nothing to do with my way of eating (WOE) more so all the little things spinning around in my little mind. I think way too much on certain things that I should just deal with as it occurs.

T.G.I.F.….. thank God it’s Friday!!! I really wanted to stay home today. I just wanted some rest and peace and quiet. I will just jell on Saturday if all goes to plan. Plan??? Well I mean “No Plans” HA!!!
I will do a little cooking. My dear wife (DW) wants me to make “OXTAIL” stew. OK I will not be able to eat it for the most part. Too much starch from the flour and veggies. I might snag an OXTAIL or two and wipe them down with some paper towels. Who Know?

1/1/2013 - Fresh Year.....Fresh Start......

Greetings Friends!!! Happy New Years to one and all. My Spirits and Energy levels are very good.

Wow so we did not crash and burn at the end of the Mayan calender. No we did not. So have we be given a second chance? OK, enough with that.

What will 2013 bring to us? What indeed!!! I truly hope it brings Joy and Happiness to all. Will it bring challenges? Sure why not. A new year is simply a passage of time. That being said it also marks a new beginning to a lot of folks who,like me, like to mark time. Did that make sense???

Well, it did to me. So for all of those out there that needed this as a time to start or begin something..... something like well lets say .....uh.... another way of eating. Yes why not? Well, here is your opportunity to jump or dive right in. Right in indeed!!! Try it again? Why not? No shame or "extra charge" for those who tried and failed, but want to reap the rewards that many of us enjoy.
